Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a public speaker. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency which hosts videos and commentary analyzing portrayals of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has been awarded prizes for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a non-for profit website that focuses on gender representation in popular stories of culture - was created and is directed by Sarkeesian. In addition, she works to highlight the problems surrounding the targeted and sexist attack on women and others of minority groups in the online world, she is determined to break down stereotypes that are associated with pop culture. Holding a master's degree in political and social thought at York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaker and she has delivered talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival as well as The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Passionate about issues of gender identity and feminism from the age of 7, she started her website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while studying at the University. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s with a dream to develop the series of videos on the internet to examine the gender roles in games. However, she became the victim of online harassment. The harassment didn't discourage her. The experience only strengthened her in her role as a feminist journalist. Numerous awards have been given to her for all the contributions that she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning media journalist. She is also the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organisation that studies pop culture representations of females.
